Peter MacInnis

Telling the vibrant stories of Cape breton through a unique blend of humour, acting and music.

Peter MacInnis, a celebrated musician, actor, and teacher from West Mabou, Cape Breton, holds a unique place in the hearts of his community and beyond.

Born to Margie and the late Jimmy MacInnis, Peter grew up immersed in the vibrant culture of West Mabou, where his parents were instrumental in the local Saturday night square dances. These early influences seeped into his creative spirit, shaping a career that blends humor, music, and storytelling.

Peter burst onto the scene with his YouTube series "Cape Breton Chats," which gained a massive following due to its humorous take on local life, particularly the playful banter between fishermen and farmers. Drawing content from his life growing up on a farm and fishing boat, Peter’s down-to-earth comedy resonated with many.

In recent years, Peter has expanded his artistic repertoire, performing with the band Beech Hill, comprising local talents Jesse Fraser, Jesse Ryan, and drummer Neil MacQuarrie. The band has released an album, "Chameleon" (2020), and an earlier EP, "Midwinter," with more music currently in the works.

Peter's talents also shine on stage, having performed in "The Cape Breton Summertime Revue" and portraying John Allan Cameron in "John Allan Cameron’s Last Show." His versatility in both music and theater reflects his deep connection to Cape Breton's artistic heritage.

A standout highlight of Peter's career was joining his friends Kate Beaton and Morgan Murray on a North American tour promoting Kate’s graphic novel, "Ducks." His performances complemented Kate’s readings beautifully, and the tour's success inspired his song "Opportunity or Home" featured on his new album, "Range Lights."

"Range Lights," released recently, is a deeply personal project. Named after a cherished fishing spot near West Mabou, it includes songs that reflect on Peter's life and local heritage. One track, "You and I," dedicated to his daughter Fiona, captures moments of familial love and cherishable memories.

Currently, Peter teaches music full-time at Bayview Education Centre in Port Hood and Whycocomagh Education Centre, describing it as his "dream job." Balancing his career, creative projects, and family life with his wife, Lisa, and their three children, Peter MacInnis continues to embody the spirit and resilience of Cape Breton.
